I have since replaced the hacky SSH tunnel with a WireGuard VPN, and have restored most functionality. Internet access on public VMs is still blocked for security reasons, I will unblock it later. I will probably set up IPv6 for all of the VMs again soon. As hinted below, I also plan to set up a mail server soon. Let's hope things go well from here!
A parent was willing to purchase a VPS (the prior day) which I can tunnel chipmunk.land through. As a temporary, and inefficient but quick, way to make chipmunk.land accessible again, I made select ports available via SSH tunneling through my main PC; I will implement a better solution in the coming days. Also mail ports have been unblocked on the VPS, meaning chipmunk.land email can finally become a reality.
chipmunk.land has temporarily been made IPv6 only. So, my IPv4 address has been targetted by a denial of service attack, resulting in me temporarily losing IPv4 connectivity. This led to my parents threatening to not allow me to host chipmunk.land if the lack of IPv4 connectivity persists (some websites don't support IPv6). This is a temporary "mitigation" made out of urgency, I will look into restoring IPv4 support later.
I've been neglecting to update this page for a while, here's what happened:
  * I got rid of Anubis as I realized I was being paranoid and it was not actually necessary. I also don't want to force JavaScript usage or completely drop support for old browsers (such as IE6). And no, it cannot stop spam accounts (which are probably made via actual browsers).
  * I ported the Matrix server's database from SQLite to PostgreSQL, with some downtime due to various complications (for example, the SQLite db somehow got corrupted) as well as me screwing it up at first.
  * More public VMs now exist, however there seems to be less interest in those, so I may shut them down someday.
  * As of writing this, server0.local (the machine serving this page and more) has an uptime of 76 days.
Due to the Forgejo instance having loading times > 1000ms the other night, and causing high CPU usage earlier today, I decided to put it behind Anubis. This does significantly impact the website's compatibility w/ uncommon browsers, and reduces the simplicity of accessing it, so I may revert this change, or just restrict the conditions in which a client needs to solve challenges. Registration is on for now too.
Last night I added two public virtual machines, however I cannot promise they will be up for too long.
Games have been moved to arcade.chipmunk.land.
Yesterday, I reinstated my previous server. I have migrated all virtual machines from my main server to it, to reduce load on my main server. IPv6 support on VMs is gone for the moment, sorry!
Last night, I added IPv6 support. Also, IPv4 connectivity was lost earlier that night due to a mishap w/ UDP on sharedvm, but it has since been restored.
Yesterday I migrated everything to a Dell Inspiron 3268, after installing some RAM into said computer. Services should now be much faster as a result. Also, sharedserver is now a VM, but I lost its /etc/shadow file and had to use entries from an older one.
There have been many things I forgot the last few months.
* Some months ago, the laptop hosting the website started to have its fans act up after running 24/7 for a while. As a result, I migrated the website to the new laptop mentioned in a previous announcement.
* I now run an Among Us server (down for now though).
* The website now supports old TLS versions and ciphers, as well as raw http, for the sake of backwards compatibility.
* infinite.chipmunk.land is down to save server resources due to a lack of activity, but eaglerboom.chipmunk.land has been created, and supports.
Multiple parts of chipmunk.land are now accessible as onion services, including this page.
Yesterday at midnight, my internet connection was lost, causing chipmunk.land to go down. I chose to unplug my router for the night (in case it would help), so the downtime continued overnight, and my IP address has changed to 98.117.33.69.
I have finally made the first backup of chipmunk.land, and intend to do so weekly. The backup script has been slightly revised. Sorry for the delay since the previous backup announcement!
At the previously mentioned date, the website was successfully migrated. Most services are working by now, however others (matrix and chipmunkbot) aren't yet. The Minecraft server is now hosted on the same machine, however it has been having some performance issues, so this might change.
I was unable to host the server yesterday due to complications. I will probably host a kaboom clone elsewhere on (next Saturday). I might also attempt to host one next Wednesday, but I will need to prepare some scripts in time.
At , I plan to migrate most chipmunk.land infrastructure to my current laptop, as I am receiving a new one. As such, services will be down indefinitely.
I have some unused, working hard drives, and have prepared a backup script. Expect chipmunk.land to be backed up frequently from now on.
If everything does according to plan, there will be a Kaboom clone at chipmunk.land:39764 on (next wednesday), close to 9:30 AM EDT (UTC-4). Please note that it will only be online for a few hours at most.
The announcements page was created. Please note that chipmunk.land has been around since at least December 2022, far before this page was created.
